This week, we begin with the Giant of Africa, Nigeria.
What are Nigerians searching for on Google Web Search?
The following search terms have been based on the last 30 days, however upon review the top searches are quite consistent for each category for the past 12 months.
- Arts & Entertainment: Top searches include: Download, Movies, NetNaija, Today Match, Music Download, Selina Tested (Nigerian Movie), Netflix, Buju, Kizz Daniel, Asake and Davido.
- Autos & Vehicles: Toyota, Lexus, Benz, Corolla, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, M Sport, Lexus 350, Ford, BMW are all in the top 25 search queries.
- Beauty & Fitness: Gilded glamour (due to the Met Gala), Latest braid styles 2022, Donatella Versace, Sauvage Dior Perfume Price, Melasma and Stay young face cream were all trending. In terms of the top searches, hair is first. Other top searches include: Braids, Perfume, Soap, Fashion, Makeup, Weight, Dior, Exercise, Kajal, Nails, IPL, Acne, Henna and Yoga.
- Books & Literature: Liber abaci is a mathematical book by Fibonacci. Traders use this for technical analysis. Workers day quotes, Palm Sunday quotes, Emotional love quotes, Punchng.com today and Cabinet system of government are all trending. They also regularly search for love, life and motivational quotes.
- Business & Industrial: Nigerians have been searching for a few crypto/NFT platforms such as Wirex, Opensea and Magic Eden is an NFT platform and has been trending. Interestingly, Sericulture i.e. silk farming is trending. Other top searches include: Fb, Tiktok, Npower, xxxx (Australian beer), APC, Access, Recruitment, Bet9ja, Marketing, Sugarcane, Elon musk, Paypal, How to make money, World richest man.
- Computers & Electronics: HDMI meaning, Hot12i (It’s an Infinix phone), Iunlocker (checking IMEI of any Apple device), My school cbt (past questions for JAMB), Xvid video codec (Video Compressor), USDT are all trending. Other top searches include: Waptrick (a website to download Games, Videos and more), Livescore, Btc and Java.
- Finance: Bismart (Looks shady but I could be wrong), USDT trading platform, America first credit union, Cotp trading platform, L credit loan, Gtbank internet banking login, Eco bank transfer code, Nyif loan approval, Xcredit loan app, Octafx trading, UBA online banking, How much is canadian dollar to naira are all trending. Dollar to naira make up the top searches. In order, the top searches for banks are: Zenith Bank, GT Bank, First Bank, Access Bank and then UBA.
- Food and Drink: xxxx gold calories, Study of grapes, Viticulture (Grape Harvesting), Ovaioza farm produce storage business (Scamming Agropreneur) ,Pornstar martini with pineapple juice, Salmon fish, Cactus restaurant, Velvet tamarind and Asparagus are all trending. Top searches include Cake, Rice, Pizza, Milk, Wine, Bread, Fried rice, Chocolate, Deans, Alcohol, Fruits, and Coffee.
- Games: xnxnxnxn cube algorithms p (Rubix cube solutions), Sonic the hedgehog, Warcraft are all trending. Top searches include: BetKing, Lotto, Golden Chance, Golden Lotto, Bet9ja, Effi Lotto, Football Prediction, GTA, SoccerVista.
- Health: Tinnitus meaning, Scleroderma (Hardening of the skin), Throat Cancer, Gouty Arthritis, Dynamogen (Histamine blocker that increases athletes performance), Causes of Throat Cancer, Vitiligo meaning, Multiple Sclerosis, Vasectomy are all trending. Top searches include: Drugs, HIV, Cancer, Ulcer, Malaria, Heart, Back, Liver, Kidney, Menstruation, Diabetes, Typhoid, Hepatitis, Postinor (Emergency Contraception) and Yeast Infection.
- Law & Government: Nigerian Air Force plane crash, Ovaioza arrested, Goodluck Jonathan 2023, Aisha Buhari, Bigamy, Salary of Nigerian president and governors, Interim government, Nafrecruitment airforce mil ng,
Nigeriapolice recruitment.gov.ng, Rotimi Amaechi are all rising. PDP is searched more than APC (8 spaces between them).
- Online Communities: Facebook is the top search. Twitter is 4th. Jiji is 6th, Dating is 7th, Whatsapp is 15th, LinkedIn is 19th and Instagram is 21st.
- People & Societies: Alaafin of Oyo, Rita Dominic, Amber Heard, Amina Muaddi, Pastor Tunde Bakare, John Dumelo (Ghanaian Actor), Libra motors (Nigerian transport company) are all rising. The top searches are: Hausa (7/25 top searches include this word). Other top searches are BBC, Bible and Asuu strike.
- Pets & Animals: Dog, Cat, Fish, Lion, Owlet, Snake, Group of Apes, Rabbit, Horse, Shiba, Puppy, German shepherd, Shark, Tiger and Puppies.
- Property: Banker room searches broke out, which is a pool draw on a Nigerian betting blog. Boliver and Zaza appeared in the top 25 searches. Pwan homes are a development company and their searches increased by 150%.
House of Ajebo is a children’s program on Youtube with almost 1.5M subscribers. They were also interested in the time in Florida and Zillow, a US property search site.
- Shopping: Bridal Material, Yellow Daffodil Hotel, HDMI and Abaya are all rising.
- Sports: Top search is Livescore. Followed by others such as: Chelsea, Madrid, Flashscores, Real Madrid, Man City, Liverpool, Premier League, Arsenal and La Liga.
- Travel: Warere Beach (Tanzania), Largest fresh water lake, Lake Baikal, Lake Superior. Top searches include: Dubai, Beach, Air Peace, Cruise and Arik Air.
